Building Our Volunteer Community

Building Our Volunteer Community

Published on April 29, 2026

Is there any better way to build community than by spending time together on an outing? Our volunteers recently had the chance to do just that with a wonderful visit to Balboa Park. We enjoyed a fascinating historical tour—an experience made possible through a partnership with Forever Balboa Park in celebration of Volunteer Appreciation Month. Docents from Balboa Park came to the Museum for a visit as well. It was such a success that we plan to do something similar every year!

Cultural outings offer the chance to connect with familiar faces in a fresh setting. You might discover that a friend plays the ukulele, once performed in a band, or shares your love of history—or perhaps the Beatles! A museum visit is the perfect way to uncover those delightful surprises.

We’ve also noticed a growing interest in adult tours at the Museum, which is fantastic. A docent-led tour pairs beautifully with lunch at a nearby restaurant or a stroll through the flower fields. Whether you’re part of a family reunion, church group, book club, or senior community—if you can gather at least ten people, we’d love to host you. We enjoy sharing the stories of our museum and invite you to bring your group for a visit. To request a date, simply fill out our online form.

And if you’d like to join our volunteer team (in time for our next outing!), attend our Volunteer Information Meeting on Wednesday, May 13, at 10 a.m.
