Certified Autism Center

The Museum of Making Music is a Certified Autism Center, a designation awarded by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). Music belongs to everyone, and we want every guest to feel welcome, comfortable, and understood.
What the Designation Means
To earn it, at least 80 percent of our guest-facing staff completed autism-specific training through IBCCES. That training builds understanding of best practices, skills, and resources for supporting every individual who walks through our doors. As a result, the people you meet at the front desk and throughout the galleries know how to help.
Support During Your Visit
We offer noise-canceling headphones for children and adults. A quiet area also gives anyone a place to step away and take a break when needed. In addition, many of our interactive instruments engage a wide range of sensory needs—visitors often find them the best part of the day. If crowds feel like a concern, our staff are happy to suggest less busy times to visit. Just ask at the front desk, or call us at (760) 438-5996.
Part of a Citywide Effort
Our certification supports a broader movement led by Visit Carlsbad to make the whole city a Certified Autism Destination. Because of that effort, families traveling here can choose from many trained and certified attractions, restaurants, and hotels during their stay.
