At our museum, every day is an open invitation to explore music through our many interactive instruments. Twice a year, on the summer and winter solstices, we also join cities around the world for Make Music Day, a global celebration of music in all its forms.
Make Music Day at the Museum
On June 21, nearly 500 visitors joined us for a free celebration filled with music and joy. Kids built bamboo guitars, and visitors of all ages sang together. Musicians started spontaneous jam sessions on the lawn and in the galleries, while live concerts played in our lobby. It was a magical, joy-filled celebration that truly embodied the spirit of musical connection.
There’s something uniquely powerful about making music together. At the museum, we encourage everyone to engage with music in their own way, whether they are seasoned musicians, curious beginners, or passionate listeners. Music has a way of reaching the soul, and on Make Music Day that connection was more vibrant than ever. The most memorable moments came when strangers gathered to sing, hum, dance, listen, and play, united by sound.
A Global Tradition Since 1982
Make Music Day began in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique. Today, it takes place every year on June 21 in more than 2,000 cities across dozens of countries. Unlike traditional music festivals, it is open to anyone who wants to take part. Musicians of all ages, skill levels, and genres fill streets, parks, porches, and plazas with free, live music, creating community through shared experience.
