Field Trip Requirements

Not booking for a school? See our group tours page. Homeschool families can also join us for Homeschool Days.

Schedule in Advance

Please call to schedule your field trip at least 2 weeks in advance. Because field trips are popular, we cannot guarantee availability.

Minimum
Size

Field trips are offered for groups of 10 or more.

Maximum Size

The Museum can accommodate groups up to 60 students. However, if your group has over 60 students, please contact us to make special arrangements.

Field Trip Details

Cost

For groups of 10 or more, the group rate is $8 per student and $12 per adult. School staff members receive complimentary admission.

Title One Schools

Field trips are free for schools that are Title One designated. Funding for transportation is available for Title One Schools within San Diego County. Reservations are subject to availability.

Duration

Field trips are scheduled for 1.5 hours for grades K-2, and 2 hours for grades 3 and up. Field trip start times are typically reserved for 9:30 am and 11:30 am Tuesdays through Fridays but can be adjusted (based on availability) to accommodate specific group needs.

What Students Experience

Trained facilitators lead each field trip with instrument demonstrations, STEAM videos, and drum circles as well as a tour through the museum’s core galleries, where students see how instruments are made and how they are played. Students will also have opportunities to explore our Sit & Play areas, where they can play instruments from ukuleles to DJ stations and everything in between!

Before your visit, you can download our free K-12 curriculum, which includes lesson plans and worksheets built on the museum’s collection. Afterward, many teachers use the same materials to extend the experience back in the classroom.

We ask that you request dates that are at least 2 weeks in advance. Field trips are only offered during the Museum’s normal hours of operations: Tuesday through Sunday.
