Core Gallery

Sit & Play

The Museum of Making Music is not a place to just look at instruments from a distance. It is also a place to touch them, hear them, and feel what they can do in your hands. The Sit & Play spaces are where that invitation becomes real.

Whether you have played music all your life or have never picked up an instrument, these areas within the galleries are designed for one thing: discovery. There is no wrong note here. There is only curiosity, and what happens when you follow it.

Backstage Lounge: For Adults and Teens

You may already have a relationship with music. Maybe you played an instrument once and set it down. Maybe you have always wanted to try something but never found the moment. Maybe you are a lifelong musician who is simply curious about what else is out there.

This room is for all of that. A selection of quality instruments invites you to sit, explore, and listen. No instruction required. No performance expected. Just you and the instrument, finding out what you have to say to each other.

What if the instrument you were always meant to play is the one you have never tried?

Questions to Ponder

  • Is there an instrument you have always been curious about but never had a chance to try?
  • What would it feel like to make a sound that no one has ever made in quite that way before?

Interactive Room: For Kids

For children, music is not something that needs to be explained. It needs to be experienced. This room is full of instruments built to be explored by curious hands and open ears, from the very young to the almost-grown.

Shake it, tap it, pluck it. Every sound a child makes in this room is a real musical act. And somewhere in all that joyful noise, something surprising tends to happen: they discover that they are already musical. They always were.

Every child who touches an instrument for the first time is making music history.

For the Grown-Ups in the Room

  • Do you remember the first time music made you feel something? What was it?
  • What would it mean for the child beside you to grow up knowing they can make music?
