Museums bring stories to life, and at MoMM, we’re lucky to share the stories behind many people’s favorite sound—music. Every instrument in our galleries has a story about how it was made, played, and loved. That’s why I’m excited to share two updates that will make it easier to connect with MoMM, whether you’re walking through our doors or scrolling from home.
First, the museum has a new website at museumofmakingmusic.org. We designed it to feel like the museum itself: welcoming, hands-on, and easy to explore. Here is what you’ll find:
- Planning a visit is simpler. Tickets, membership, and group tour information are all front and center, so you can plan ahead and save time.
- Events are easy to find. From concerts to family programs to Homeschool Days, the upcoming events calendar shows what’s on at a glance, and a new filter helps you narrow it down.
- The collection comes to you. Our Artifact Spotlights feature objects like the first Taylor guitar, Don Lewis’s Live Electronic Orchestra, and an RCA theremin. Think of them as a preview of what you can discover in person and an opportunity to learn more from the comfort of your home. Each gallery’s page has more to explore: Making the Instruments, Accessing the Instruments, Using the Instruments, and Beyond the Instruments.
- Learning is easy to access. School field trips, K–12 curriculum, and our adult ensembles, North Coast Strings and New Horizons Band, each have a clear home.
- News and stories live in one place. Our News page is where you’ll find updates from the museum and reflections from our team.
Second, you’ll see more of us on social media. We’re posting more often on the museum’s Facebook and Instagram channels, which is a great way to stay tuned for museum happenings and behind-the-scenes information. Consider this your invitation to peek in on MoMM.
Because MoMM is about making music, not just learning about it, we hope these new tools get you off the screen and into the museum. Join us to pick up a guitar, try an instrument you’ve never played before, or stay for a concert. And if you haven’t already, sign up for our newsletters so you never miss a beat.
Explore the new site, follow along, and let us know what you think. I hope to see you soon, in the galleries or online.
