One of the instruments featured in the Museum's recently opened spotlight exhibition, MusicUnity: Connecting Communities Through Music, is the Adaptive Travel Sax. Developed by Odisei Music in collaboration with the My Breath My Music Foundation, this highly customizable saxophone enables individuals with physical limitations to achieve full musical expression.
For those with extremely low muscle strength, a special version includes extra-light buttons, reducing the effort needed to press them. Its keys can also be "re-mapped" for one-handed playing, with an external footswitch providing flexibility for both left- and right-handed musicians. Additionally, the Travel Sax features an app that fine-tunes settings such as breath sensitivity, making it accessible to players with varying degrees of breath control.
The instrument can be mounted on a tripod or articulating arm (as displayed in the Museum), eliminating the need to hold it while playing. Notably, for every unit sold, Odisei Music donates €100 to the My Breath My Music Foundation, supporting ongoing research and initiatives that empower musicians with a range of abilities and preferences to learn, create, and connect through music.
