MusicUnity:
Connecting Communities through Music

Adaptive instruments create new opportunities for individuals of diverse abilities to share in the joy and benefits of music-making. Designed with inclusivity in mind—from custom prosthetics to intuitive digital interfaces—these innovations empower musicians to express themselves fully. By bridging the gap between technology and creativity, adaptive instruments celebrate the unique contributions of each musician, fostering a more diverse and vibrant musical community for all.

Whether through modifications to traditional instruments or the creation of innovative new technologies, adaptive instruments empower musicians of all abilities to immerse themselves fully in the world of music. These avenues of expression are enriched by community and professional organizations that champion inclusive experiences or serve as sanctuaries of opportunity, where every appointment is a testament to talent and dedication.

The MusicUnity exhibition presents three impactful themes that celebrate the power of music to bridge diverse communities:

Serving Musicians with Diverse Abilities
Discover adaptive instruments designed to empower musicians of all abilities. These innovations bridge technology and creativity, allowing musicians to express their unique talents and enrich the musical community.

Serving Those Who Serve
Experience the powerful role music has played in supporting military personnel from World War II to the present day. Explore how music aids in healing and connection for both active-duty members and veterans.

Lifelong Learners
Engage with stories of lifelong music-makers and celebrate the benefits of music for cognitive, emotional, and social well-being at any age. The museum champions adult musicianship through its adult band and orchestra programs, emphasizing that music is truly for everyone.
