On this live episode of MoMM@Home we welcome three amazing San Diego vocalists—Cassie B, Tanya Mackenna, and Whitney Shay—whose recent musical project, DecaDames, takes on a time capsule of musical hits that pays tribute to the powerhouse women of the decades. In this discussion, they'll share their influences and inspirations behind the project.
Cassie B is a singer – dancer, born and raised in San Diego, California. She spent most of her childhood in musical theater, which taught her the importance of becoming a well-rounded performer. She has performed in roles such as Beth in Little Women and the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. At 16 she joined one of San Diego's best professional dance teams, Culture Shock, where she spent countless hours in rehearsals, performing and developing her love for the soulful, funky and pop style music that has become her signature sound. Michael Jackson is Cassie's greatest musical influence and has inspired her to create an atmosphere that “inspires listeners to feel the music and not be able to stay in their seat.
Tanya Mackenna has been performing at different events all through San Diego County for over 16 years. Able to sing in english and spanish, Tanya has been featured on hit television shows including the Spanish International show Sabado Gigante, Tengo Talento Mucho Talento, America's Most Talented Kids, Three Minutes to Stardom, and recently on American Idol Season 14. Also known for her work on YouTube and entertaining audiences throughout the San Diego casino and corporate network, Tanya continues to grow her singing career.
The four-time San Diego Music Award winner (including 2019 Artist of the Year) and 2019 Blues Music Award nominee is scorching stages at home and internationally throughout Europe and South America. Shay’s latest release on Ruf Records Stand Up! debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues charts and also reached #1 on the Roots Music Report. Shay has received high praise from music critics calling the singer “a future blues icon” (Blues Matters!), “one of the next best things in soul music” (Blues and Rhythm Magazine), and “the epitome of a rising star” (Elmore Magazine).
Shay’s tracks have also been placed in TV/film, including shows on NBC, HBO, Bravo, BET, and Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral. Shay recently signed to the prestigious Ruf Records label, and will extensively tour with Ruf's Blues Caravan.
