North Coast Strings – Summer Session

North Coast Strings returns for another summer of meaningful music-making, welcoming back familiar faces and extending a warm invitation to new players ready to join the ensemble. Designed for intermediate violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists, this summer session offers a rich ensemble experience. If you've been part of our community before, we're so glad to have you back. If you're new, you'll find a group that is genuinely welcoming and ready to make room for you.

Each week throughout the summer, participants gather for a two-hour rehearsal led by award-winning conductor Alyze Dreiling, who brings both high musical standards and a focused yet genuinely low-pressure atmosphere. The first half hour of each rehearsal is dedicated to technique. We will dive deep into rhythms, bow usage, musical expression, and more, giving players the tools they need to grow with intention. The remaining time is devoted to ensemble rehearsal, where participants bring those skills to life through thoughtfully chosen repertoire that challenges and inspires at the intermediate level.

The summer session culminates in a final performance where participants share their work with friends, family, and the wider community. North Coast Strings is more than a program, it's musical home for adult learners who believe it's never too late to play, grow, and be part of something beautiful.

About the leadership: 

Alyze Dreiling 
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Alyze Dreiling began her studies with master pedagogue Mischa Mischakoff, supported by the Detroit Symphony and the Music Study Club of Metropolitan Detroit. She earned a BM in Violin Performance from Indiana University, studying with the legendary Josef Gingold, and an MA in Orchestral Performance from United States International University. An award-winning conductor, accomplished violinist, and esteemed educator, Alyze leads the North Coast Strings Orchestra and inspires musicians of all ages through her artistry and leadership. For full biography, please visit https://www.alyzedreiling.com/.
