The Museum hosted its annual Valentine’s Day dinner with music by the Kamau Kenyatta Quartet, featuring vocalist Damion Willis.

Tray Passed Hors D’Oeuvres

Steamed Oriental Potstickers: Cilantro ginger soy dipping sauce
Chicken, Apple and Cheddar Pastry Triangles: Applewood smoked chicken, granny smith apples and cheddar cheese stuffed warm filo triangle
Belgian Endive With Roquefort & Cranberries: Sun-dried cranberries, toasted pecans and creamy Roquefort cheese in a crisp leaf of Belgian Endive

1st Course

Sweetheart Salad: Crispy romaine lettuce, Fuji apples, caramelized walnuts and crumbled blue cheese with basil balsamic vinaigrette
Assorted Petite Rolls and Butter

2nd Course
Your predetermined choice of one of the following entrees:


Bacon Wrapped Filet: Grilled and spice rubbed accompanied with a wild mushroom sauce
Balsamic Basil Chicken: Gilled boneless chicken breast marinated with balsamic vinegar, fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil, garlic and fine herbs
Mushroom Stuffed Hothouse Tomat: Hothouse tomato stuffed with exotic mushrooms, sautéed with a touch of champagne, fresh herbs, parmesan and cream, served on a bed of angel hair pasta and garnished with watercress, herb beurre blanc and a drizzle of fresh basil oil

All entrees are served with:

Olive Oil Mashed Potatoes: Creamy Idaho russet potatoes, Napa Valley extra virgin olive oil, fresh rosemary
Sautéed Vegetables: Fresh vegetables of the season sautéed in herb butter and herbs de provance 

3rd Course

Chocolate Bombe: A sensual blend of bittersweet chocolate mousse on a crispy hazelnut base dusted with cocao and a drizzle of raspberry coulis
Regular and Decaffeinated Coffee: Served with fresh cream, sugar and sweetener

 

KAMAU KENYATTA  
Kamau Kenyatta, L, and Damion WillisPianist, saxophonist Kamau Kenyatta resides in San Diego, CA where he is a lecturer at the UCSD Jazz Studies Department.

Originally from Detroit, his versatility comes from his early exposure to a vast array of musical styles. Kamau has worked with jazz greats such as Hubert Laws, Earl Klugh, Patti Austin, Jim Pepper and Donald Byrd. World tours have taken him to over 20 countries and include stints with Donald Byrd, Carl Anderson, The Supremes, New Kids On The Block and the Watts 103rd St Rhythm Band.

Kamau has also collaborated with Hubert Laws in writing the score for “Small Steps, Big Strides” a Fox network documentary concerning the history of African-American film. He has also written and supervised music for “The Dawn At My Back,” a Sundance Film Festival award-winning interactive DVD-ROM memoir.

His project “Celebrating Neruda,” intertwines dance, Latin American music, and the poetry of the Chilean genius, Pablo Neruda.

“Destiny,” his most recent disc as a leader, was recorded at the Museum of Making Music and released in the spring of 2007.
